So Many Hearts

In between working on the blocks for Jacobean Bouquet I wanted to design some small pieces for the upcoming holidays.  What better place to start than Valentine’s Day.

For some reason I love quilts with hearts.  One of my favorites is a bed size quilt called Double Hearts.  It has appliqued hearts alternating with corded trapunto hearts and leaf and vine border.  This is all done in candy heart colors.  Very bright and cheerful.

Then there’s A Dozen Hearts.  A fusible applique bouquet of hearts.  May have to redo this one in wools.

Here’s one of my earlier designs, Heart Felt.  This one was gifted to my husband’s cardiologist.  It brought tears to his eyes.  I was so touched by his response in receiving this quilt.  He is an amazing doctor.

I am seeing a recurring heart theme in the patterns I design.  If you look at my blocks in Jacobean Bouquet, you’ll see hearts in each month.  Here’s January.

Hearts as leaves.
Then February.

Hearts show up in the flower designs.
Nothing for March but April had a stem of bleeding heart flowers.

And I’ve even used hearts as a hand quilting pattern.

Wanting another heart applique quilt, I chose bright Kaffe Fassett fabric for the appliqued hearts set on point.  This one is a work-in-progress.  I need 110 appliqued block, I think I have 10 finished. They are all cut out and on the background fabric. Will take a bit of time to complete but I will love it when it’s finished. Maybe if I do one a day, hmmmm.

This is my late summer go to wall hanging, Sunflower. It has a pair of pieced pinwheel hearts appliqued on the top corners.

My newest pattern is in wool.  Hearts as flowers with some embroidery to compliment it.  Deciding how to finish it. Right now framing it is winning. Pattern and kits will be available at the end of the week.
